Welcome to the Signs of the States!
There’s something special about crossing a state line and being greeted by a bold, colorful welcome sign—it marks a new adventure, a change in scenery, and sometimes even a change in culture. This page is dedicated to those iconic roadside markers that proudly announce you’ve entered somewhere new. From classic designs to creative slogans and scenic backdrops, each sign tells a little story about the state it represents.
Even though I’ve traveled to many of the 50 states over the years, I never thought to stop and take a photo of the welcome signs—something I now wish I had done. So as I continue road-tripping around the USA, I’ve made it a goal to photograph each state’s welcome sign as I visit. It’s a fun way to document the journey and celebrate each new stop along the way. I hope you enjoy following along as this collection grows, one adventure at a time and one sign—and one state—at a time.
My Home State - Pennsylvania
New Look, Historic Roots:
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro recently unveiled updated license plates and welcome signs featuring the phrase “Welcome to Pennsylvania – Let Freedom Ring.” These signs celebrate Pennsylvania’s role as the birthplace of American democracy and set the stage for the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026. The first eight signs are already in place, with 29 more on the way!
