On my recent trip to Portland Oregon is where I fell in love with the natural beauty of waterfalls. Even though I didn’t get to see all of the falls in the area I was able to experience the most iconic falls you won’t want to miss on your future adventure to Oregon.

The waterfalls in Portland, Oregon are located in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, which is just a short drive from downtown Portland. The Columbia River Gorge is a narrow canyon that stretches over 80 miles along the Columbia River and is home to some of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world.
There are over 90 waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge, with many of them located just a short drive from downtown Portland.
We were able to visit several waterfalls when we took the three-hour guided tour, that picked us up and returned us right to our hotel doorstep. Our guide was a knowledgeable local young woman who love sharing information about the history of the area and the waterfalls.
The first fall that we visited is by far the most is the most popular waterfall in Portland Oregon, attracting nearly two million visitors from around the world every year, and for good reason.
Multnomah Falls is fed mainly by underground springs, it is the tallest waterfall in the state, standing at an impressive 620 feet tall.
This waterfall is easily accessible, with a paved path leading to a bridge that offers stunning views of the entire waterfall. There is also a lodge at the base of the falls that offers a gift shop and restaurant.

As we continued on our drive up the Historic Columbia River Highway, built between 1913 and 1922, the Columbia River Highway was an engineering marvel of its time. Its construction combined innovative design, environmental sensitivity, and an appreciation for the region’s natural beauty. The next two Waterfalls we stopped to view were Latourell Falls & Shepperd’s Dell Falls
Latourell Falls is a unique waterfall that features a single drop of 249 feet. The waterfall is surrounded by stunning basalt columns, making it a popular spot for photographers. The hike to Latourell Falls is easy and short, making it a perfect stop on a day trip to Portland Oregon.
We then headed off to our fourth and final waterfall. Horsetail Falls. I think this was my favorite, you had to walk down a grade to the base of the falls, and you could get up close and personal with it and feel mist spraying on you as it came down and hit the small creek below.
The waterfall gets its name from its unique shape, which resembles a horse’s tail. It’s a relatively short waterfall, standing at just 176 feet tall. However, what it lacks in height, it makes up for in width. The falls cascade in a strikingly wide sheet, spanning 50 feet across. The waterfalls are in a single stream, splashing onto the rocks below and creating a beautiful mist that surrounds the area.

It is an excellent time for swimming at the base of the waterfalls and enjoying a picnic with friends and family.
