Castles From Around The World

Some say castles other might say mansions

Welcome To Castles Around the World

There’s something magical about castles — from medieval fortresses built for defense to fairytale palaces designed to inspire wonder. This section of my website is dedicated to exploring castles and castle-like mansions both in the USA and across the globe.

I’ve always been captivated by Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany (a favorite of mine since my travel agent days!), but what many don’t realize is that there are castles much closer to home too. Whether it’s Boldt Castle in New York, Hearst Castle in California, or centuries-old strongholds in Europe, each one has a story worth telling.

Here you’ll find all my blog posts about castles — history, legends, travel tips, and personal adventures as I check them off my list. From iconic sites to hidden gems, this page is your gateway to the incredible world of castles.

Don’t forget to follow me on Facebook for #CastleTuesday, where I highlight a new castle every week!

Neuschwanstein Castle, Germany

This castle has always been my favorite! Back in my travel agent days, Pan Am Airlines sent me a poster of Neuschwanstein Castle, and it still hangs in my office today. Built in the late 1800s by King Ludwig II, this Bavarian masterpiece looks like it came straight out of a fairytale — and in fact, it inspired Disney’s Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Perched high in the Alps with its dreamy turrets, it’s one of the most photographed castles in the world. And here’s the exciting part — in 2027, I’ll be traveling to Germany to finally see it in person!

Would you add Neuschwanstein Castle to your travel bucket list?

Windsor Castle, England

Did you know Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world? 🏰 Built in the 11th century by William the Conqueror, it has been home to 40 monarchs and is still an official residence of the British royal family.

What fascinates me most is how Windsor Castle has stood for nearly 1,000 years and continues to play a role in history today. From state banquets to royal weddings, its walls have witnessed it all.

If you could spend just one day living like royalty inside Windsor Castle, what would you want to do first?

Boldt Castle, New York, USA

You don’t have to fly to Europe to see castles — we have them right here in the U.S.! Boldt Castle, located in the Thousand Islands of New York, was built in the early 1900s by millionaire George C. Boldt as a romantic gift for his wife, Louise. Sadly, she passed away before it was finished, and the castle sat abandoned for decades before being restored.

Today, visitors can tour its 120-room mansion, yacht house, and beautifully landscaped grounds. It’s proof that castles aren’t just in Europe — they’re closer than you might think!

Have you ever visited Boldt Castle, or is it on your U.S. travel list?
