20 Sun-Soaked Shores You'll Want to Visit

When it comes to incredible beach destinations, I feel so lucky that the United States has no shortage of options. From the rugged coastlines of the Pacific Northwest to the sunny shores of the Gulf of Mexico, there’s a perfect beach getaway waiting for all of us. Whether I’m craving pure relaxation, thrilling water sports, or just stunning scenery, these are some of my favorite beaches in the USA that I think are worth adding to your travel list.

1) Waikiki Beach, Oahu, Hawaii

Waikiki Beach is iconic for good reason. I love how it blends Hawaii’s natural beauty with the energy of city life. Its soft golden sands and gentle surf are perfect when I want to try my hand at beginner surfing. And when the sun sets behind Diamond Head, I always stick around to enjoy Waikiki’s lively nightlife — beachfront bars and restaurants with breathtaking views make for an unforgettable evening.

Best time to visit: April to June and September to November — the weather is beautiful and the crowds are smaller.
💡 Tip: Try an early-morning surf lesson before the beach gets busy.
💵 Fees: Waikiki Beach itself is free, but parking can be pricey. Many nearby hotels charge for beach access or amenities, so plan accordingly.

2) Clearwater Beach, Florida

With its sugar-white sands and crystal-clear waters, Clearwater Beach on Florida’s Gulf Coast never disappoints me. It’s consistently ranked among the top beaches in the USA, and I can see why. It’s super family-friendly with calm, shallow waters that are great for swimming. I love strolling to Pier 60 for fishing, local entertainment, and catching one of those spectacular Gulf sunsets.

Best time to visit: October to December — you’ll find pleasant temperatures and fewer crowds than in spring break season.
💡 Tip: Don’t miss the Sunsets at Pier 60 Festival for live music and local artisans every evening.
💵 Fees: The beach is free, but you’ll pay for parking (usually $2-$3/hour). Pier 60 has small fees for fishing or equipment rental.

3) Myrtle Beach- South Carolina

Whenever I visit Myrtle Beach, I know I’m in for miles of sandy shoreline and endless fun. From sunbathing to trying the local seafood or playing mini-golf, there’s something for everyone here. The lively boardwalk is a blast — amusement rides, arcades, and live shows make it one of my favorite spots for families.

Best time to visit: May to September for prime beach weather, though June–August is the busiest.
💡 Tip: Get up early to claim your spot on the beach and beat the crowds!
💵 Fees: Beach access is free, but expect to pay for parking. The boardwalk attractions and rides have individual fees.

4) Coronado Beach - San Diego, California

Coronado Beach really defines California coastal beauty for me. Located on Coronado Island, it has wide stretches of fine white sand and calm waters, which make for the most peaceful beach day. The historic Hotel del Coronado sits right on the beach — it adds a touch of luxury to the visit. Plus, it’s dog-friendly, so it’s perfect when I want to bring my pup.

Best time to visit: March to May or September to November for pleasant weather and fewer tourists.
💡 Tip: Park a bit further from the hotel for free street parking instead of paying for hotel lots.
💵 Fees: The beach is free! Just plan for possible parking fees if you use hotel lots.

5) South Beach- Miami Florida

If I’m looking for a vibrant, energetic beach experience, South Beach in Miami is my go-to. I can’t get enough of its Art Deco architecture, trendy bars, and luxury hotels. The golden sand and warm Atlantic waters are ideal for swimming or paddleboarding. When I’m ready for a break from the sun, the nearby restaurants and boutiques always keep me entertained.

Best time to visit: March to May — warm but not sweltering, and the winter crowds have died down.
💡 Tip: Bring a bike or rollerblades for a ride along Ocean Drive — it’s a classic Miami experience!
💵 Fees: Beach access is free, but parking in South Beach is notoriously expensive. Look for parking garages a few blocks inland to save money.

6) Cannon Beach- Oregon

When I want something more rugged and scenic, Cannon Beach in Oregon is high on my list. It’s famous for the iconic Haystack Rock, and I love wandering the shore, exploring tide pools, and marveling at the dramatic cliffs. It’s the perfect peaceful retreat when I need to unplug and soak up nature.

Best time to visit: June to September — the weather is driest, but bring layers because it can still get chilly.
💡 Tip: Check the tide schedule and visit at low tide to see the amazing tide pools around Haystack Rock.
💵 Fees: Cannon Beach is free to access. Parking is usually free too, but spots fill up fast in peak season.

7) Cape Cod National Seashore- Massachusetts

I absolutely adore the Cape Cod National Seashore for its 40 miles of pristine coastline. It’s my favorite place to spend a summer day beachcombing, birdwatching, or even spotting whales. The cool Atlantic waters and quaint coastal towns make this an ideal summer escape.

Best time to visit: June to September for warm temps and the full Cape Cod summer experience.
💡 Tip: Bring cash or a credit card — some beaches require a day-use parking fee.
💵 Fees: Most parking fees are around $20/day in peak season. The National Seashore itself is free to walk on.

8) Sant Monica Beach- California

Santa Monica Beach is where I go when I want the best of both worlds — California’s beautiful coastline and lots of entertainment. The Santa Monica Pier is always buzzing with life, thanks to the Ferris wheel, aquarium, and food vendors. I love lounging on the wide, sandy beach, people-watching, and dipping my toes in the ocean.

Best time to visit: March to October, with September often being warm and less crowded.
💡 Tip: Skip pier parking and park in the nearby city lots for a better deal.
💵 Fees: The beach is free, but you’ll pay for parking (around $10–$15/day near the pier). Pier attractions and rides are extra.

9) Destin Beach - Florida

Destin Beach on Florida’s Panhandle is another spot I can’t resist. The emerald-green waters and soft white sand are absolutely stunning. It’s a great destination for families — snorkeling, dolphin cruises, and fishing charters are just some of the activities I’ve enjoyed there. Henderson Beach State Park is my favorite spot for a quieter, more natural stretch of coastline.

Best time to visit: April to May and September to October — warm but less crowded than summer.
💡 Tip: If you’re visiting Henderson Beach State Park, bring a picnic and stay for the sunset!
💵 Fees: Destin’s public beaches are free, but Henderson Beach State Park has a small entry fee — $6 per vehicle.

10) Outer Banks - North Carolina

The Outer Banks always feels like a hidden treasure. This stretch of barrier islands has miles of untouched beaches and a remote vibe that I love. I’m a fan of kiteboarding and windsurfing here, and the area’s rich history — like the Wright Brothers’ first flight — adds an extra layer of interest.

Best time to visit: Late spring and early fall for warm weather without the summer crowds.
💡 Tip: Bring your own beach gear — some stretches are remote with few amenities.
💵 Fees: Most beaches here are free! Some parking lots or specific park sites may have nominal fees.

11) Sleeping Bear Dunes, Michigan

Sleeping Bear Dunes is truly one of the most stunning places I’ve ever visited in the Midwest. Imagine towering sand dunes, clear blue Lake Michigan waters, and breathtaking overlooks. I love hiking up the dunes (it’s a workout!) and then cooling off with a swim in the lake. It’s perfect for families, photographers, or anyone who wants to feel like they’re on top of the world.

Best time to visit: June through September for warm swimming temps and gorgeous clear days.
💡 Tip: Take the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive — the overlooks are amazing! Wear shoes you don’t mind getting sandy.
💵 Fees: You’ll need a park entrance pass — about $25 per vehicle, good for 7 days.

12) Siesta Key Beach- Florida

Siesta Key Beach is hands down one of my favorite Gulf Coast beaches — and that’s saying a lot! The sand here is like powdered sugar — it’s 99% quartz, so it’s unbelievably soft and stays cool under your feet, even on hot days. The water is calm, clear, and perfect for families. I love the friendly vibe, great sunsets, and how there’s always something fun happening in the nearby village.

Best time to visit: March to May or September to November — it’s warm, but you’ll miss the peak winter crowds.
💡 Tip: Arrive early — the free parking lot fills up fast, especially on weekends. Bring your own beach umbrella or rent one there.
💵 Fees: The beach is completely free and has free parking — just one more reason I keep coming back!

13) Kaanapali Beach - Maui , Hawaii

Kaanapali Beach feels like paradise every time I visit Maui. This stretch of golden sand and crystal-clear water is perfect for swimming, snorkeling near Black Rock, or just floating the day away. I love how close it is to resorts, restaurants, and shopping — I can beach-hop and then grab a mai tai all in one afternoon.

Best time to visit: April to May and September to November — the weather is beautiful, and it’s a little less crowded than peak summer.
💡 Tip: Don’t miss the nightly cliff diving ceremony at Black Rock — it’s a tradition!
💵 Fees: The beach is public and free. Some nearby resorts charge for parking if you use their lots.

14) La Jolla Shores , California

La Jolla Shores is one of my favorite spots in Southern California when I want a laid-back beach day with tons of activities. The long, flat shoreline is great for swimming, kayaking, or just relaxing. I love watching the surfers, snorkelers, and scuba divers explore the famous La Jolla Underwater Park.

Best time to visit: Year-round is lovely, but May to October usually brings the warmest beach weather.
💡 Tip: Take a guided kayak tour through the sea caves — it’s a must! And arrive early to snag parking.
💵 Fees: The beach is free, but parking can be tricky. Some lots are paid, but there’s limited free street parking.

15) Ruby Beach - Washington

Ruby Beach, on the wild Washington coast, is like stepping into a postcard. It’s one of my favorite spots in Olympic National Park — dramatic sea stacks, driftwood-strewn shorelines, and that misty PNW vibe. It’s perfect when I want to feel far away from it all and reconnect with nature.

Best time to visit: Late June to September — that’s when you’ll have the best chance of dry weather and clear sunsets.
💡 Tip: Wear sturdy shoes — the beach has big rocks and logs to climb over. Also, check the tide schedule before you go.
💵 Fees: The beach itself is free, but you’ll need a National Park Pass ($30 per car, good for 7 days).

16) Gulf Shores - Alabama

Gulf Shores is one of those places I can’t help but return to. The soft white sand and warm Gulf waters are perfect for swimming, snorkeling, or just relaxing in the sun. I love the laid-back vibe here — plus, there’s fresh seafood everywhere. If I feel adventurous, I can rent a kayak or take a dolphin cruise.

Best time to visit: March to May or September to November — the weather’s gorgeous, and it’s not as packed as summer.
💡 Tip: Visit Gulf State Park for walking trails, fishing, or even camping right by the beach.
💵 Fees: The beach is free, but Gulf State Park charges around $5–$10 per car for parking or day use.

17) Topsail Beach- North Carolina

Whenever I need a quiet, laid-back beach getaway, Topsail Beach is one of my favorite hidden gems. Located on Topsail Island, it’s got a small-town feel, wide sandy beaches, and lots of seashells to hunt for. It’s never too crowded, so I can relax, fish from the pier, or just watch the pelicans fly by.

Best time to visit: May to September for the warmest weather and calmest ocean conditions.
💡 Tip: Bring your own chairs, umbrellas, and snacks — there are fewer amenities here than bigger tourist beaches.
💵 Fees: The beach is free, but parking may cost a few dollars at some public access points.

18) Biloxi Beach, Mississippi

Biloxi Beach always surprises people — it’s such an underrated spot on the Gulf Coast. I love strolling the long stretches of sand, trying out fresh Gulf shrimp, or spending an evening at one of the waterfront casinos. The water is calm and shallow, so it’s family-friendly, too.

Best time to visit: April to October for warm weather — but I love the shoulder seasons for fewer crowds.
💡 Tip: Take a sunset sail or a shrimping boat tour for a fun local experience.
💵 Fees: The beach is free, with plenty of free parking along Beach Boulevard.

19) Cumberland Island , Georgia

Cumberland Island is one of my favorite adventures for a true off-the-grid beach experience. This protected barrier island is only accessible by ferry, which keeps it wonderfully quiet and wild. I love the combination of gorgeous untouched beaches, maritime forests, and seeing wild horses wander the dunes.

Best time to visit: March to May or September to November — pleasant temps and fewer bugs!
💡 Tip: Bring food, water, and sun protection — there are no shops on the island. Also, book your ferry tickets in advance!
💵 Fees: $10–$15 per adult for the ferry plus a small entrance fee for the National Seashore

20) South Padre Island Beach, Texas

South Padre Island is my go-to Texas beach when I want fun in the sun plus a little party vibe. It’s popular with spring breakers, but outside of March it’s a fantastic family destination too. I love the warm Gulf waters, dolphin tours, and incredible sandcastle competitions.

Best time to visit: September to February if you want to skip the spring break crowds — the weather’s still warm!
💡 Tip: Try a sunset horseback ride along the beach — it’s magical.
💵 Fees: Public beach access is free. Some county parks have a small day-use or parking fee ($10–$12).
